FAQs

Are you accepting new patients? How soon can I be seen?

Yes, I am currently accepting new patients! You can usually schedule an appointment within 1 week. Please schedule a 15 minute consultation call to discuss if I would be the right fit for you and the details of an initial appointment.

Please note that I have limited availability for individual/family/couples therapy and am NOT currently accepting patients under the age of 18 for individual therapy.

What can I expect working with you?

Free consultation: 15 minutes to assess what your concerns and goals of care are, and if I feel confident that my services will help you in achieving your goals.

Initial Evaluation (1 hour for adults, 2 hours for children): A diagnostic assessment of current symptoms, past history, and discussion of the treatment plan.

Follow-Up Visits: Normally 15 minutes for adults, 30 minutes for children, but timing can vary. Usually, patients are seen monthly. Sometimes every 2 weeks if starting a new medication or increasing dosage. Patients whose symptoms are very stable can be seen every 3-6 months. For patients prescribed controlled substances, an appointment is required monthly.

What kind of therapy do you specialize in?

I specialize primarily in psychodynamic psychotherapy which is a type of talk therapy that can help you understand and address emotional difficulties by exploring your unconscious patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It's based on the idea that our past experiences, especially in childhood, can significantly influence our present lives, even if we're not consciously aware of it.

Unlike some therapies that focus solely on current symptoms, psychodynamic therapy explores the root causes of your difficulties. It's less structured than some other therapies, allowing you to lead the conversation and explore what's most important to you. The relationship with your therapist is also an important part of the process, as it can provide valuable insights into your relational patterns.

Do you take insurance?

No, I do not participate in any insurance panels at this time. I require payment via credit card, cash, Zelle, or check at time of service (most patients opt to place a credit card on file). I can provide a superbill of services for you to provide to your insurance company at your request.

Good Faith Estimate: As of January 1, 2022, all healthcare providers are required to provide estimates for the cost of care for all clients not utilizing health insurance. The Good Faith Estimate shows the cost of any items and services that are reasonably expected for your healthcare needs and treatment. This will be provided by the office upon scheduling and/or as requested. This Good Faith estimate does not include unexpected costs that could arise during treatment. Learn more here.

Why don’t you take insurance?

The reason for my rates (aside from my confidence in my expertise) is the fact that I carry a small caseload and this practice is not my only source of income, thus I give close attention and care to each one of my private patients. At my practice, you are not a number. Additionally, my rates are inclusive of any time I may spend on documentation, paperwork, completing prior authorizations with insurance companies, providing you with medication refills in a prompt and timely manner, etc.

Additionally, by paying for services out of pocket, you may choose to keep your mental health records more private and separate from other health information that the insurance company may maintain about you, if that is important for you.

Can I be your patient no matter where I live?

As long as you live in New York State, we can work together!

Depending on our discussion during our free consultation, I may request that some children/adolescent patients come in-person for their first appointment at least. Most adults can be seen remotely from their very first session.

The need for further in-person sessions depends on clinical judgment and type of medication prescribed, as per federal regulations.
