Alex El Sehamy, MD

Board-certified adult, child, and adolescent psychiatrist

Hello!

I am a Long Island-based psychiatrist with experience working all over New York City.

After completing my medical training and general psychiatry residency at Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn, NY, I went on to complete my fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at New York University (NYU) where I spent most of my time working with children next door at Bellevue Hospital Center.

While at NYU, I served as an assistant professor in the undergraduate College of Arts and Sciences teaching a course on the evolutionary, biological, and anthropological perspectives of love and relationships entitled “Love, Actually”. I also wrote a book chapter on Internet Gaming Disorder in a publication entitled “Teens, Screens and Social Connection”.

I currently operate my private practice on a part-time basis, splitting time with my work as an emergency child psychiatrist at Northwell Health/Cohen Children’s Medical Center. My affiliation there benefits my patients who may need emergency support and/or admission to a psychiatric hospital.

My training as a physician has provided me with a breadth of experience treating patients with many different diagnoses in many different settings. I understand the mental health care system and am confident in my ability to diagnose, treat, and make recommendations/referrals that make sense for you.
